Freedom of Expression
Expressions can be made through a multitude of varying avenues. People are born with the basic human right of expression. Even when freedoms appear to be suppressed by a form of tyrannical leadership of some sort, it is not easy to hush a crying baby. And..., as we all know too well, babies express themselves through crying, at any time they feel like it. Whether you would like them to shut up or not. By the time babies grow up to be small children, they soon learn to add kicking and head tosses in with the wailing, which nowadays is called a temper tantrum.
When teenagers decide to exercise their basic human right of expression, a whole new type of earthquake takes place, and interesting words come spewing out of their naughty, little mouths, as if they had just swallowed the remnants of an erupting volcano. Animals are not so different than teenagers really, when they need to get somebody's attention. I have three cats in my house. If one of my cats doesn't like the way you're petting him, he'll bite your hand. I have one cat who potties on my pillow when she is mad at me. Needless to say, I have gone through several pillows to date.
A Walrus bull will sing love songs to a female it wants to mate with. The African lion likes to fight, claw, and bite at potential mates, when the mating scent lays upon the stiff African air. Birds peck and screech to scare off an intruder or to call a female bird in to nest with them. There are even some male birds out there, who conjure up the strangest dance routines and performances, in order to express their unique abilities.
People have the tendency to do the strangest things, when they feel the need to express themselves. Nobody will ever expressed love as notably as Van Gogh did though. He loved so deeply at one point, he cut off his own ear and sent it to his lover, as an expression of his endearment. William Shakespeare expressed himself through his dramas and comical satire. When Robert Frost felt the need of getting something off his chest, he wrote another epic poem or two.
President Barrack Obama's, 2008 presidential campaign, was ran entirely on the volatile hysteria of personal emotion. His campaign motto of change, could be heard around the world. His expression of hope and change in his campaign message, reinstated with millions of voters, touching on the importance of freely expressed ideas, which Americans hold so dear. Popes, pastors, or monks express themselves through the power of prayer and peaceful protests. When watching Buddhist monks in protest, it is their expression of brotherhood and companionship, which is the most represented.
As Americans, let us not ever forget, how precious our right to express ourselves is to each one of us. It is a powerful tool, and something to stand proud of. Not too many countries celebrate the freedoms, so many of us take for granted. Express yourself, and vote in the 2012 Presidential election.

Hey, RK... You somewhat beat me to the punch here, :) (oh, well--my article will be more constitution/rights/explanatory, anyway). Did you see my own little tiff with Misha? I'd just seen what he was doing to you (and others) once too often. Guess they think they are 'monitoring.' Good job opening up something I think needs to be discussed on Hubpages.
Well, I just noticed it got so bad, a couple topics were shut down, sooo....sigh:

Yeah, I don't understand the hubscore, either, really. It doesn't seem to relect seriousness, but then, some people are not here for that, and that's OK, too. He needs to leave those who are 'serious' or political or what have you, be, though. He probably isn't happy with me, after that--but what can you do?
Another great article! I'm impressed. =)
My thoughts on "freedom of expression" is....I may not like it, I may not agree with it, I may not want to watch or listen or look at it...but I believe in your right to do it. As long as it harms no one physically. 'cause mental scars build character ;) (<--sarcasm!)
Great stuff RKHenry and so much the need of the hour. For me, freedom of expression would be to live and let live, without that freedom degenerating into license.
Ahhhh RKH - comes with age - though even today, I will speak out against deception.
When I was young I would have done exactly what you do :D
And look, even Shalini has shown personal integrity here too! ;)
Yeah, I'm all out of stuff to say. Hey look--a bunny!
Excellent way of looking at this topic RK. Love the photos and so many good points you make. Points that don't merely encompase humankind and political issues.
To me, freedom of expression means to be able to feel things with all my senses and then to release those feelings and thoughts about those feelings without repression and without repressing.
Freedom of expression to me is doing things my way even if I am marching to a very different drummer!
Thanks RK - I am looking forward to reading more of your hubs!
Great hub and lovely pix. As someone said- your freedom ends where my nose begins.
Freedom ends when it begins to encroach upon the rights of others
To understand Misha's hub scores, check his comments count. He drops one sentence comments everywhere.
A lot of good points, RK.
Q.
Interesting hub!
Some people write only a few hubs, but they have picked a good niche to write about and will get good traffic. Other people can write a hundred hubs and not get as much traffic. It all depends on the key words you are using and if you are promoting your writing. The search engines will find you, but if you do not have your own website to promote your writing, or if you are not social networking you cannot get the backlinks needed to get your hubs higher in the search engines.
You are one of the most *interesting* people on Hubpages. I can't emphasize the word right. Emphasis on "ing." There are some very interested (emphasis on "ed") people here, with a lot of variety in the things that catch their fancy, but it seems as though everything that interests you is a passion.
I wonder though how you chose your college major -- I find myself more and more interested in history, so that's not my "point." It just seems as though it would be hard to narrow it down!
Freedom of Expression enables me to be a leader and express whatever I feel on paper and to others. I am a leader not a follower therefore I will always strive to be heard in a strong, cordial way.:)
Hi RKH, Its a privilege to be able to read your open minded points of view, and the way you put it. The hubs you write make me realise being a non-conformist is ok and doing things out of the norm is ok. I learn something every time from your hubs. They are also written clear enough for people like me with basic academic abilities to enjoy, as well as the deeper thinking people. You are intellectually 'kind' for all.

Great information - freedom of expression is a two edged sword, dependent on who's on the other end. Most people appreciate the freedom to express themselves but often times reject others freedom, particularly when it opposes their viewpoint. I think people are too sensitive these days.
So what does freedom of expression mean to me? Well, I appreciate the opportunity to express my viewpoints on hub in hope that people understand that's it's just a personal opinion.
Thanks for sharing.
